The Importance Of Screenwriting
When you think of Screenwriting, is it underappreciated, overappreciated, or just there? I think the safest and most correct answer is that with the exception of filmmaking itself, the screenwriting process is super important to bringing a project to life. It’s not just written dialogue or action, it’s a story and the only thing screenwriting doesn’t do is act out the vision of the screenwriters. Screenwriters comprise a very intricate process to help develop how the project should be filmed and perceived.
Screenwriting is the page-to-screen transfer of written dialogue and action, but what does it contribute to a film set? Screenwriting is the behind-the-scenes work that acts as a blueprint and foundation for the entirety of the project. It is finding ways to create obstacles and finding ways for the characters to break through them. It’s also finding ways to make the hero win or in contrast, make the villain win. Screenwriting is significant in the structure of a project and provides so much for the story to be told, however, it gets told.
